| Isle of Man - 2004 Tonkinese Cat Coin | |
| The
Tonkinese Cat. This coin is
the 17th of the series, and it features an adorable picture of 2 Tonkinese cats
chasing a butterfly on the front of the coin, and a
picture of Queen Elizabeth II on the other side.
The Tonkinese cat is a relatively new breed. It is the result of crossbreeding Siamese and Burmese cats, and is said to combine the best qualities of both. Tonkinese cats have the intelligence and curiosity of a Siamese cat with a more relaxed personality of a Burmese cat. They are medium in size and very muscular. The Tonkinese coat is exceptionally soft and dense with a wonderful sheen, and can take up to 16 months to reach its true color. Tonkinese cats (sometimes called "Tonks") are sociable, fun loving, highly intelligent and curious cats. They will dream up dozens of games you can play with them, and love to retrieve and play hide and seek. This coin is CuNi (Cupro Nickel) in a Brilliant Uncirculated minting, which shows amazingly fine detail on the finish of the coin. It is a large coin -- approximately 38.6 mm in diameter, which is slightly larger than the size of a United States Eisenhower dollar. |

The colorization process is done by the mint that makes the coin, and the colorization process consists of painting an enamel finish over the raised areas of the coin to illustrate the details in color. The colorized details of the Tonkinese kittens are painted to show white fur with brown accents on the color points of each cat, resulting in an absolutely beautiful keepsake coin! This coin is made of CuNi (Copper-Nickel) in a Brilliant Uncirculated minting, which shows amazingly fine detail on the finish of the coin. It is a large coin -- approximately 38.6 mm in diameter, which is slightly larger than the size of a United States Eisenhower dollar. The coin comes encased in plastic inside a lovely color presentation card, decorated with pictures of adorable cats on the front and back of the presentation card (see photos of the presentation card to the left). |
