Niue
Niue is a South Seas Island located 2,400 kilometers north-east of New Zealand, about 120 kilometers east of the International dateline. The Island measures 260 square kilometers and has a population of around 1,750, making it one of the largest raised coral atolls in the world. It is also the smallest self-governing state in the world!
The first cartoons by the artist Charles M. Shultz appeared in seven U.S. daily newspapers on October 2, 1950. Full of such delightful and charming characters as Charlie Brown, Linus, Pig Pen, Lucy, and Snoopy, PEANUTS has become far more than just a comic strip. In many ways, the adventures and daily travails of these lovable personalities have lightened all our lives and brought a special warmth to childhood while reflecting the universal themes of friendship, unrequited love, and angst. In short, PEANUTS has become one of the more positive icons of popular culture.
Today, PEANUTS is the most widely syndicated comic strip of all time, read by over 355 million people worldwide in over 2,400 newspapers in 75 countries and more than 20 languages. Sadly, Charles Schultz died on February 13, 2000, at the age of 77, just after announcing his retirement. His loss will be all the more greatly felt as under the terms of his contract, no one else will ever be able to take up his pen and continue the PEANUTS strip.
