| Peacock Coin

Gibraltar's glorious Peacock Crown
was originally issued in to celebrate the Japanese Royal Wedding, and due to its
popularity it was minted once again in a special limited edition minted in 1997. This
coin from Gibraltar has two beautiful peacocks on the back and Queen Elizabeth II on the
front.
This coin is made from Cupro-Nickel (CuNi) and is in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. To add to its beauty, each eyespot on the peacock's tail is brilliantly polished. The contrast in the photo at left was enhanced to show the striking coin detail. The exact origin of the peacock is unclear, but evidence suggests that these birds are native to India and Java. The peacock has regal connections in Japan and is known as the Royal Bird. There are many ancient myths and legends surrounding the peacock. The bible mentions that every three years King Soloman sent for gold, silver, apes and peacocks. Romans thought that wearing a pendant in the shape of the bird would protect them from sickness. This is your chance to own one of the few coins ever minted that honors this beautiful bird. |
